Brownsville & Haywood County January 11, 2008 Volume
4, Issue 1 |
|
Happy New Year! I’ve enjoyed my holidays and time off. I hope
you enjoyed yours. Nothing slows down for long in Haywood County and the
calendar is fast filling up. Don’t forget to share your upcoming 2008 events with the rest of us. A new Master Gardener class is set to begin Jan. 31. Anyone who
wants to know more about gardening should not miss this very informative 40
hour training. Everything from landscape design to Ag chemicals will be
discussed. This is also a great opportunity to become a part of a volunteer
gardening group and continue your horticultural education and help the
community too. The annual scarecrow contest is just one of the activities
spearheaded by the Haywood County Master Gardeners. Call the Extension
office, 772-2861, to sign-up. [2008 Class Schedule] John Sharpe, after more than 40 years, has turned the helm of
Brownsville Utility over to Regie Castellaw. Regie brings over 25 years of
BUD experience to the general manager position. Mr. John, we’ll miss you, but
know you leave us in very good hands. Congratulations, Regie! Good news from city and county government with the
implementation of a new entity to promote industrial recruitment for our
area. In conjunction with Tipton County, Covington and local utilities, this
is a proactive step to fill the industrial parks and especially the Mega
Site. I think this collaboration will prove to be very effective. Overall, I predict 2008 will be a year of planning. We realize
that steps have to be taken to keep our small town alive and thriving and I
think we have the structures in place now to do that. The ball is rolling and
I want to help push it forward! Don’t you? ~ Sonia |
