WOW! That’s about all I can say about the first “Holiday in
Haywood.” Over 1,000 people walked through the Armory doors this past
weekend. Needless to say the event will be back next year. Thank you to
everyone who participated and worked so hard to make this happen. You did an
absolutely wonderful job. Christmas Parade entry form and Grand Marshal nominations
are due soon. Send your nomination to Frank Fawcett, P.O. Box 42, Brownsville,
TN 38012 or e-mail him before Tuesday, Nov. 25. Parade
entries are due Dec. 1, at the chamber. The parade is Saturday, December 6 at
6 p.m. Before the parade, there will be children’s activities on the square
and Santa has agreed to visit with the kids for a few hours before parade
time. Mrs. Claus is also coming and will read to the children throughout the
afternoon. Look for Santa’s house on the square. If it rains, Santa will be
in the courthouse. Businesses will also be open later that day for your
shopping convenience. Next week is Thanksgiving and my plans include finding my candle
sticks and putting them in the windows. If you are not familiar with this
tradition, it is simply an electric or battery operated candle stick with a
clear bulb placed in each of your front-facing windows. Even if you have no
other holiday decorations, this makes such a statement. It is a symbol of welcome
and friendship - something we all need to feel at one time or another. I
remember when every home in Haywood County did this. What a sight! And what a
wonderful tradition; something the whole family can enjoy and help with. I
hope you will join me in seeing that it continues. And, don’t forget the Community Thanksgiving service this Tuesday
evening at First Presbyterian Church. I’m taking a break from the newsletter next Friday, but keep a check
on the website and I’ll be back on December 5, with updates. Friday, December
5, is also the day for the annual Christmas Basket Radio-thon. Be sure and
tune in to Brownsville Radio, 95.3 FM, and make your pledge to this very
worthwhile cause. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog List your Community Event here! |
