Saturdays are going to be extremely busy for the next month or two.
The annual March of Dimes Walk will be held tomorrow at College Hill. This is
a great cause and if you have not done so, asks a few people to sponsor you
and go join the walk. After all that exercise, drive out to Zion Baptist
Church for their annual stew, eat-in or carry out will be available. Cub Scout Pack 68 is having a Boston Butt Sale tomorrow morning from
9-noon. I have it on good authority that some extra butts are being cooked,
so if you forgot to pre-order yours, get there early and claim one of the
extras. Monday is the deadline for registering to vote in the November
Presidential Election. Go by the Election Commission on the lower level of
the courthouse to register. Monday is also the deadline for entering the Annual Scarecrow
Contest and they are already beginning to appear on the square. Have you
gotten your entry form in yet? Enter online now or print an entry form. We really want to meet or
exceed last year’s number of 40 entries. I hope you can help make this happen.
And then plan to be on the square for the judging on Saturday, October 11.
The Master Gardeners will be selling hot dogs and homemade ice cream
beginning at 3 p.m., and there will also be entertainment. It’ll be a
pre-festival party that’s sure to get you in the mood for the Hatchie Fall
Fest. The new Hatchie Fall Fest t-shirts are here and available at A&B
Printing, 50 South Washington. You can pre-order online or simply drop by A&B. The
festival is only two weeks away. I hope you are making plans to attend and
take advantage of all the games, contests and activities planned. Go here for the Complete
Schedule. The final concert in the Wednesday Morning Musicale’s 100th
Anniversary celebration is happening Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Temple Adas
Israel. Seating for this concert is limited, so get your tickets now. If you’re
a Rockabilly fan, you’ll want to attend “The History of Rock and Roll.” The
Haywood County Chapter, UT Alumni Association is co-sponsoring this event
happening at the Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame in Jackson Thursday night. And if
you are a Vols fan you’ll also want to know more about the Big Orange
Tailgate and TV Party begin held Oct. 11 at the Brownsville Country Club. Find

March of Dimes March for
Babies Show your
support of the March of Dimes by participating in the March for Babies,
Saturday, October 4. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at
10 a.m., at the College Hill Center. Individuals, businesses, families and
church teams will be walking to show their support for the March of Dimes.
Everyone is encouraged to join or start a team to raise money to save babies.
For more information, contact Tara Joyner at 731-772-0804. Zion Annual Stew Zion Baptist
Church, on Zion Road, will hold its annual stew on Saturday, October 4; beginning
at 11 a.m. Stew will be available for eat-in or carry-out. Bring your own
containers for $18 gal.; eat-in for $6 includes stew, dessert, bread and
drink. Chili will also be available for eat-in. All proceeds will benefit the
Philippine Mission Trip. Boston Butt Fundraiser Cub Scout Pack
#68 will sponsor a Boston Butt fundraiser on Saturday, October 4, to benefit
the Park of Dreams. Butts must be pre-ordered by calling 731-772-2804 or
731-772-2806. The cost is $30 and each is approx. 8 lbs. The meat can be
picked up on October 4 between 9 a.m. and noon, on the parking lot of
Backyard Barbecue, 703 East Main St. All proceeds will benefit the Park of
Dreams. |

Monday, October 6 |

Deadline for Scarecrow
Entries Enter online now or print an entry form. Last Day to Register to VOTE! Monday, October
6, is the last day to register to vote for the November 4th Presidential
Election. Registration must be received by 4:30 p.m. that day. Mail-ins must
be postmarked by that date, as well. To register, contact Andrea Smothers,
Haywood County Election Commission on the lower level of the courthouse, or
call 731-772-1760. Toddler Time at the Library Toddler time at
the Elma Ross Public Library will be Mondays, October 6 & 20, at 11 a.m.
Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories,
songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. |

Relative Care Adult Support
Group An adult
support group meeting is held monthly at the Exchange Club Carl Perkins
Center for all caregivers who care for relative-placed children. Caregivers
discuss issues relevant to their lives as caregivers. Relative Care Givers
will meet Wednesday, October 8, at 1 p.m., at the Carl Perkins Center, 130

The History of Rock & Roll The Haywood
County Chapter, UT Alumni Association invites you to "The History of
Rock & Roll in Jackson, Tenn." Thursday, October 9 at 6 p.m. Wendall
Werner, Professor of Music at UTK, will be the featured speaker at the
Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame in Jackson. Cost is $15 per person, advanced reservations
are required. The Haywood Chapter is co-hosting this event with the Madison

Saturday, October 11 |

Big Orange Tailgate and TV
Party Load up your
favorite tailgate foods and head to the Brownsville Country Club Saturday,
October 11, at 12:30 p.m. - 2 hours before kickoff of the UT/GA game. Join
other UT fans as the Vols take a bite out of the Bulldogs! Hotdogs and the
fixin's will be provided, along with a big screen TV poolside to watch the
game, and a cash bar. Hosted by the Haywood County Chapter, UT Alumni
Association. Cost is $10 per car or $5 per person. You do not have to be an
alumni to come, just wear orange and root for the Vols. For more information,

Scarecrow Contest The Haywood

Wednesday Morning Musicale
Concert Series The Wednesday
Morning Musicale's final concert in celebration of its 100th anniversary will
be held Sunday, October 12, 3 p.m., at Temple Adas Israel. Tickets are $10
and a limited number are available. Scheduled guests include Anita High
Myers, Diane Dupree Evans, Emily High Hartnett, Charles Overton, Keith

Deadline to Order - Your
Field of Flags The Brownsville
Exchange Club will once again host a display of the American Flag in honor or
memory of loved ones on the lawn of the Haywood County Courthouse, City Hall
and the Chamber of Commerce. You may sponsor a flag for $25 each. A special
commemorative ceremony will be held at noon on Veteran's Day, November 11, on
the court house lawn. After the ceremony, flags will be available for
pick-up. A placard will be placed at the base of the flag stating the name of
the honored or remembered person and the donor. Deadline for ordering your
flag is Wednesday, October 15. To place your order, contact John Gallaspy -
