Imagination Library sign-up is now available online. This should make it a lot
easier for all the new moms to sign up their child. Imagination Library is
administered locally by Haywood County Reading Railroad and applications are
still available at the Elma Ross Library, too. The program provides free
books, each month, from birth until five years. If you have a child or know a
child who is eligible, please make sure they are registered. Need an
additional incentive to register your child? Imagination Library is now part
of the qualifications that a county must meet to be eligible for Three Star
status. Haywood County is currently only serving about 50% of our eligible
children. I think the Three Star requirements are 60%. We definitely want to
keep our Three Star designation, and since registration is available online
now, there’s really no reason we can’t meet and exceed these guidelines. Learn more about the program. We all know “Haywood Has Talent” and on May 2, you can prove it.
Haywood Park Community Hospital Relay for Life team is sponsoring a talent
show on Saturday, May 2, 1 p.m., at the Walking Track. Entry fee is just $25
or $50 for groups of two or more. Grand prize is $250. Entry forms must be
returned by Monday, April 20, and are available at the hospital’s front desk.
You can also call 731-772-8432 for more information. This event will be lots
of fun. And the competition is not limited to musical talent. Just remember,
deadline for entry is this Monday, April 20. Relay for Life continues to bring us opportunities for good eats.
Save this Thursday night for spaghetti. First Presbyterian Church Relay team
will be selling spaghetti plates ($6) for dine-in or carry-out from 4-7 p.m.,
at the church, 109 West College. Plates include spaghetti, salad, bread,
dessert and drink. Call 731-772-2893 to place your orders. The Chamber of Commerce, Brownsville Business Development and the
Tennessee Small Business Development Center will sponsor a series of Customer
Service seminars on Tuesday, April 21. You can choose to attend a morning or
evening session. The morning session begins at 8:30 a.m., at the chamber and
the evening session is at 6 p.m., at the Delta Room behind Backyard Barbecue.
The evening session will follow the monthly meeting of the Brownsville
Business Association. If you are a business owner, I hope you will choose to
attend one of these and also send your employees. In economic hard times,
customer service is what makes your business stand out above everyone else.
Is yours up to par? Call the chamber, 731-772-2193, to reserve a seat. Congratulations to the 2009 Leadership Haywood County graduates. The
fourteen members of this year’s class graduated last night at a banquet in
their honor. Haywood County’s new Leadership graduates are John Ashworth, Gem
Bell, Lisa Carlton, Mark Conway, Greg Douglass, Vicky Fawcett, Della Ligon,
Lisa Paris, Elliott Simmons, Scott Stoots, Alice Taylor, Ben Thornton, Marie
Watkins, and Ivie Wheeler. Oh, by the way, if you see a bunch of corvettes around town
tomorrow, wave and say “hello.” The Memphis Corvette Club will be visiting
Brownsville and has several stops planned around town. They will be here all
day and I’m sure will be glad to show off their rides to anyone who is
interested. Watch for impromptu car shows. Here’s a copy of their agenda. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog List your Community Event here! |
