& Haywood County August 13, 2009 Volume
5, Issue 30 |
|
As of Monday, school is officially in session and we need to be
especially careful with the additional traffic and kids on the streets. Lt.
Barry Diebold of the Brownsville Police Station has provided some traffic
safety tips for keeping our kids safe. Go here to read the safety tips. Lt. Diebold also informs me there will be sobriety checkpoints this
weekend. Check out Friday’s calendar below for details about the saturation. Great crowd at Relay for Life Friday night. I enjoyed some wonderful
entertainment, visits with a lot of friends and taking a few pictures. Are you familiar with The Crockett Rocket? It’s a monthly paper that
has been publishing in Crockett County for some time now. Publisher Michael
Harrison has decided to do the same thing here in Haywood County. The first
issue of “The Haywood Harbinger” is set to hit the street Monday, August 17.
The paper is free and will be available in stands around town. I am doing
some writing for it, so I hope you will pick up a copy and let me know what
you think. (Story ideas are welcome.) The Exchange Club Carl Perkins Annual Telethon is coming up this
weekend and Beth Wilson, Center director, tells me Haywood County’s hour is
5-6 p.m. The telethon will be aired on WBBJ TV in Jackson. If you’ve not yet
made your pledge, please call the telethon and do so. If you want your
donation to come back directly to the Brownsville center, please designate
“Haywood County” when you call. The West Tennessee Chapter of Friends of the NRA annual membership
banquet is August 27. See the AAB August Calendar for more details and a picture
of the pistols to be given away to a lucky person who buys their ticket
before the event. I’ve been learning a lot lately about how our local Young
Guns skeet team has benefitted from grants provided by the Friends of the
NRA. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog If you have an event coming up that isn’t listed on the Calendar, e-mail details to sonia@outlawdesignmarketing.com. |

100 DAYS OF SUMMER HEAT Sobriety Checkpoints set for this Weekend This weekend, local authorities will be increasing enforcement
efforts to insure the safety of the citizens of Brownsville and Haywood
County. Officers of the Brownsville Police Department and the Haywood County
Sheriff’s Department will be teaming up. Joint enforcement activities will
begin on Friday, August 14, at 8 p.m., and end Sunday, August 16, at 2 a.m.
Activities will include Sobriety Checkpoints, and DUI Saturations. Officers
will concentrate their enforcement efforts on removing impaired drivers from

Highway Safety Office. Members are invited to the 2009
