Twenty-one shopping days until Christmas! Sorry, I
couldn’t resist beginning this newsletter with that bit of trivia. I actually
bought a couple of gifts during the Holiday in Haywood event and have since
ordered a few things from a local store, so I am well on my way. I know Merle
Norman-Traditions gifts will be open late on Thursday for the next three
weeks for shoppers like me who have to shop around our work schedules. I hope
to find that other merchants are following suit. For several years I have
been able to buy all my gifts in Brownsville and plan to do the same this
year. I encourage you to do all that you can here, too. Have you heard about Sugar Creek’s new 2010 calendar? It
features the residents in all kind of fun and exciting locations (and
costumes). Go by and check it out. It’s only $10 and who doesn’t need a
calendar to pin-up, especially when it features folks you know. While you’re thinking about all the stuff you want to
buy, I hope you’ll also remember to give a little back by way of the annual
Christmas Basket Fundraiser. Held each year on Brownsville Radio, 95.3 FM,
the baskets go to needy families in our community. You can call your pledge
in at 731-772-3200 or 3500. If you want to give anonymously or just don’t
want to talk on the radio, call 731-772-3700. The radio-thon begins at 7:15
a.m. Don’t forget this year’s Christmas parade Saturday
night! This year is going to be bigger and better than ever. And if you want
to get the kids picture taken with Santa, he’ll be on the court square
beginning at 2 p.m. Concessions will be available and other fun stuff for the
kids, too. Dress warm and come on out for a day of Christmas fun. My grandson’s performing with the East Side school group
during Christmas at College Hill on Monday. I hope you can all come out and
see the performances and enjoy the Arts Council’s Christmas gift to the
community. It begins at 6 p.m. Insouth Bank’s annual Taste of Christmas is Tuesday and
the Boys and Girls Club Windows of Hope Gala is planned for December 11.
First Presbyterian Church’s annual Service of Lessons and Carols will be
presented this Sunday at 5 p.m. It’s beginning to look, sound and taste a lot
like Christmas in Brownsville and Haywood County. ~ Sonia Join the
