I have the downtown renovation plans posted. Take a look and let me know what you think.
Saturday was a big day at the Carver Gym on Jefferson and
unfortunately I wasn’t able to be there. But I did get to meet David Lubin
and talk for a little while about his experiences. A very interesting man.
And it was especially interesting to hear his perspective of Brownsville and
Haywood County. Coming from a man who has spent his whole career in the film
industry and especially as a movie art director, Lubin seemed most impressed
with the Mindfield. Comparing it to Watts Tower in Los Angeles. So impressed
was he that he made a special effort to meet Billy Tripp before leaving on
Monday morning. Whatever your opinion of the Mindfield, it seems to have a
certain appeal. Could it be that the Mindfield will be Brownsville’s big
tourist attraction in coming years? What’s your opinion? Have you ever wanted to learn to quilt? Pat’s Fabrics, 1210 Anderson
Ave., will be offering beginner quilt classes starting March 28. Participants
will learn to make an Irish Chain quilt. Call Pat’s, 731-772-4833, for more
details. I do know that class size is limited, so you might want to call
today. Don’t forget to get your tickets for the annual Exchange Club/Carl
Perkins Dinner and Auction on March 14. This year’s going western with the
theme “Corral Child Abuse.” Event and ticket details here. The Memphis Symphony Orchestra will be in concert on March 7 at the
Ann Marks Performing Arts Center. The Symphony always draws a big crowd and a
wonderful reception afterwards is always a lot of fun, too. This year’s event
will also feature artwork by local students. Get your tickets now, before
they sell out. More details are below or call Betsy at the Arts Council
office, 731-772-4883. Have I told you about a new local website? It’s www.YucatanMission.com. First Presbyterian Church,
here in Brownsville, has been involved in this mission for the last eight
years and one of its members, Andy Combs, just returned from his 16th
trip to the area. It’s has been very interesting for me to hear about the
impact Brownsville, and other churches, have had in this region of Mexico.
The new website is a tool to keep members informed, but also to generate
interest and help broaden the mission as well. Most recently, a sheep-raising
project has been implemented. Learn more about the Yucatan
ministry. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog List your Community Event here! |
