Don’t be confused, it really is Thursday and yes, AAB is a day
early. I’ve been thinking about publishing AAB a little earlier in the week.
Which day do you think is best? (E-mail me your preference). Hope you had
a great 4th holiday! I’m glad to be back in time to tell you about tomorrow night’s
Walking Horse Classic. This annual event skipped last year and I’m so happy
its back. If you’ve never been to a Walking Horse show it’s really something
and one of the special things about this show is that all the proceeds from
the concessions benefits our own Carl Perkins Center. Show starts at 6:30 at
the East Side Arena, off of East Jefferson and the Bypass, and opens with one
of the most popular classes of the night – the Stick Horse race. Kids 6 and
under get to participate in this class and it’s a hoot to watch. And at only
$5 per person (kids 6 and under get in free) or a Box Seat for 6 is $50. Ya
can’t beat that with a stick “horse.” Tabernacle’s annual camp meeting starts tomorrow night, too. The
week-long revival will include three daily services at Tabernacle United
Methodist Church. Rev. Ellsworth Kalas will be the guest speaker this weekend
and Dr. Brent Strawn will speak the rest of the week. Service times are in
the calendar below. And speaking of kids, swimming lessons begin Monday, July 13 at the
City Pool. Cost is $35 first child and $30 second child. Lessons are from 5-6
p.m., Monday through Thursday. This is sponsored by Parks and Recreations,
call them for more info and to register – 731-772-6693. The Chamber of Commerce annual Kid’s Day is planned for Wednesday,
July 15, at Volunteer Park. Sponsored by the chamber and Parks and Rec., they
can always use volunteers. Call 731-772-2193, if you can help. Leadership Haywood County is accepting applications for its Class of
2010. The program teaches you about different aspects of life in Brownsville
and Haywood County that you might not normally be aware of. Over 200 have
gone through this class since its inception in 1993. I went through in 1995
and loved it. Learn more about the program and pick up an application at
the Chamber office or print one here. If you are a business owner, you might be interested in showcasing
your wares to the community at a Business Fair being planned by Haywood
County Schools on August 5 during the annual State of the Schools
Celebration. All Haywood County teachers and administrators will be present
and the entire community is invited, too. A great place to show off the many
products and services offered locally. Here are more details and how
to register. Oh, and something else I want to tell you about because it will sell
out quickly. The Hatchie Queen is setting sail to Music City. Brownsville
Baptist’s annual Dinner theater will present “Hatchie Goes Country” July
28-31. Your favorite Hatchie country characters will be sailing to Nashville
for a Grand Ole Opry show. Tickets go on sale Monday, see the details below. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog If you have an event coming up that isn’t listed on the Calendar,
