Tonight’s the BIG night. Relay for Life begins at 5:30 and opening ceremonies are at 7 p.m. See you there.

 

Sunday is a big day for First Presbyterian Church. They will be dedicating their new welcome center. The dedication ceremony will be part of the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Everyone is invited to attend.

 

Don’t forget your Boston Butt. John Gallaspy, Exchange Club president, has offered to pick up your check and then deliver back to you on July 2. You’re not going to beat this deal; $30 for an 8 lb. Boston Butt, cooked, wrapped and delivered ready to eat. What a way to start the 4th of July weekend. Orders are being accepted through June 26. Call John at 731-772-6648. Remember all the proceeds from this fundraiser goes to the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

 

Father’s Day is coming up June 21 and a couple of local merchants are celebrating by giving away free hot dogs from 11-2, on Saturday, June 20. Check out Merle Norman and Rayz Tanning, on the south side of the square, for some super Dad’s Day gifts and enjoy a hot dog and drink while you shop. Oh, and if you are downtown today around 10 a.m. stop by Rayz for their Ribbon Cutting. They’ll also be having giveaways and specials all day. Go by and register for some great prizes.

Ribbon Cutting at Rayz Tanning Salon

Rayz Tanning Salon & Boutique, 19 South Lafayette, invites you to join them for their Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting event Friday, June 12 at 10 a.m. Terry Knight, new owner of Rayz, is excited about a new 20-minute tanning bed and the expansion of the clothing department. Relay for Life 2009

This year’s annual Relay for Life event will be held Friday, June 12, at the football field. Activities begin at 5:30 p.m., opening ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and the luminary ceremony is at 10 p.m. There’ll be all kinds of great food, kid’s activities and live music. But most importantly, this is a night for friends, families and neighbors to come together to celebrate life and raise money to fight cancer.

 

Family Night at Holly Grove

To wind up this year’s Vacation Bible School, parents are invited to a short program that is being presented by the children Friday, June 12, at 7 p.m.

Brownsville Country Club Invitational

The Brownsville Country Club will host a 2-day golf event June 13 & 14 beginning at 8 a.m. This is an individual medal play with number of flights depending on number of entries. Cash payouts. Wes Hampton In Concert

Brownsville Baptist Church will present Wes Hampton, former Brownsvillian and a member of the Gaither Vocal Band, Saturday evening, June 13, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m., and a love offering will be taken. $10 donation is suggested. Vacation Bible School

First Holiness Church will kick-off its annual Vacation Bible School Monday, June 15. This is a week-long event June 15-19, from 6-8 p.m. each night. This year’s theme is “Boomerang Express: It all comes back to Jesus.” There will be classes for all age groups. Lots of activities consisting of crafts, games and a closing program on Friday evening. Toddler Time at the Library

Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be held Monday June 15, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack.

BBA Monthly Meeting

The Brownsville Business Association will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 5:30 p.m., in the Delta Room behind Backyard Barbecue, 703 East Main St. Everyone is invited. For more information, call 731-780-5144

 

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4838

Monthly meeting of veterans who have fought in foreign wars to conduct business and plan for future events that involve veterans or veteran's programs. Family Health Fair

Bring the kids – all ages, birth and up – for “Fun in the Sun.” A petting zoo, jumpers, games, prizes and snacks plus health and developmental screenings will be offered Wednesday, June 17, 3-6 p.m., at Iglesia Bautista Cristo Rey, 1458 East Main St. The event is free. Father's Day Cookout

Merle Norman and Rayz Tanning will host a Hot Dog cookout Saturday, June 20, from 11-1. Free hot dogs and drinks and an opportunity to shop for a unique gift Dad will always remember. Merle Norman and Rayz Tanning are located at 17 & 19 South Lafayette on the square.
