All About Brownsville

& Haywood County

March 6, 2009

Volume 5, Issue 10

What’s the old saying? March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Well there’s no doubt it came in like a lion, a big white snowy one. My friend, Jan, reminded me last night that our first snow (dusting really) of the year was on January 28. This one began on February 28. Makes you kind of wonder what March 28 has in store, doesn’t it. I hope you enjoyed it. I know the kids liked the days out of school. I’ve posted a few pictures from my small corner of the world.

Tomorrow night the Memphis Symphony will be in Brownsville. Hope you’ve gotten your ticket already. If not, see the details below and get yours before they sell out.

Don’t forget tickets are still available for the big Carl Perkins “Corral Child Abuse” dinner, dance and auction. Event and ticket details here.

Speaking of the Carl Perkins Center, April will be Child Abuse Prevention Month and they always have those great t-shirts. This year’s shirts are now available. Go here for details.

One things for sure, we certainly know how to eat in Haywood County. If you check the calendar this month, you’ll find everything from a white beans and cornbread lunch to a chili cook-off to gumbo. All to benefit Relay for Life. And add Boston Butt to the list, too. The Brownsville Fire Department will be smoking Boston Butts for pick-up on April 4, but you must preorder. Cost is $25. Go by Fire Station #1, beside City Hall. Deadline to place your order is March 29.

Do you like to run or jog? If so, read about a new runners club that’s forming.

I’m excited about a couple of new businesses that have opened. The Coffee Pot, on West Main next to Curves, opened this month. A friend brought me a cappuccino from there yesterday and a delicious slice of banana nut bread. Really good! Peggy’s Resale Shop, on North Washington next to Pamper Parlour, opened Monday and will specialize in quality used clothing. Visit both these businesses and tell them how happy we are they chose Brownsville.

Pat at Pat’s Fabrics says she still have a couple of spots left for the beginner quilting class I told you about last week. Call her for more details, 731-772-4833, or drop by her shop on Anderson.

If you’re a business owner you will be interested in a free marketing workshop planned for March 21. This will be a hands-on class that will look at “12 Easy Marketing Tools for Small Business.” Because this will be an interactive workshop, size is limited. E-mail if you would like to participate.
