Sure is a lot going on for the weather to not be cooperating. Wake
one morning and it’s 82 degrees, wake the next and it’s 42. And now it’s
freezing. Of course, we are not at all surprised. Seems it’s just that way this
time of year. Got your horse saddled and your cowboy hat and spurs on? Yep, we’re going
western to help “Corral Child Abuse” at the annual Carl Perkins Dinner and
Auction tomorrow night. Tickets are still available. Call 731-772-8378 and
reserve your table. If you’re planning to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this weekend,
don’t plan on getting too green or at least be sure you’ve designated a
driver. Police and deputies are gearing up for a county-wide saturation beginning tonight through
Sunday morning. Stay safe and wear those seatbelts. The Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge is having a Work Day Saturday,
March 21, from 8 – 11:30 a.m. Refuge Manager Mike Chouinard hopes this will
become a bi-annual event. Chouinard have a number of new activities and
events planned in the future. He hopes that the public will be interested and
take more ownership in our refuge. The focus of this work day will be three
fold: 1) landscaping around the entrance and HQ, just mulch this time, 2)
trim trees along Oneal Lake, and 3) pick up trash around the Check
Station/new Youth Fishing Lake and Oneal Lake. What you’ll need: leather
glove and work boots or knee boots; what to bring if you have them: pitch
forks and wheel-barrows. The Refuge will provide trash bags, water, mulch,
trailer to haul limbs and trash etc. Families are invited and encouraged.
Please RSVP to 731/772-0501, ext. 222 if you can help. Haywood Park Community Hospital recently presented a check for
$5,100 to United Way. Here’s the details and a
picture. Spring Break for Haywood County schools begins Monday, March 23, and
so does Vacation Bible School at Poplar Corner Baptist Church. See details
below. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog List your Community Event here! |

Weekend The St.
Patrick’s Day weekend has historically been accompanied by increased traffic,
and unfortunately, increases in serious traffic crashes. Many of which have
been alcohol related. It is the plan of local authorities to insure the
safety of the citizens of Brownsville and Haywood County. Officers of the
Brownsville Police Department and the Haywood County Sheriff’s Department
will be teaming up. Joint enforcement activities will begin on Friday, March
13, at 8 p.m., and end Sunday, March 15, at 2 a.m. Activities will include
sobriety checkpoints, and DUI saturations. Officers will concentrate their
enforcement efforts on removing impaired drivers from the roadways. However
as non-compliance with the safety belt and child restraint laws place people
in danger, these laws will be vigorously enforced as well. This program is
funded by a traffic enforcement grant from the Governors’ Highway Safety
Office. More information ... |
