Today is the first day of Spring and I have the fever. I’m ready to start planting the vegetable garden, but I know better than to do that before Easter. Only a few more weeks to go. But if you’re like me and are ready to get your hands dirty, be at Oneal Lake tomorrow morning for the Hatchie Work Day. Details are below. Be sure to call Refuge Manager Mike Chouinard, 731-772-0501 ext. 222, to let him know you are coming.

Haywood County’s United Way campaign continues to get headlines as a Haywood Company employee, Dorsett Jones, is one of the winners of a $50 gas card giveaway. Read more here.

Several activities going on this week. It’s Spring Break for Haywood County Schools and lots of kids will be around. Remember this when you’re driving about.

It’s not too late to order one of the smoked Boston Butts being offered by the Brownsville Fire Department. You can place your order by going by the station next to City Hall. Cost is $25 and they will be available for pick-up on April 4. The deadline to get your order in is March 29.

If you’re a golfer, get ready for the March of Dimes Golf Tournament coming up in June. Go ahead and register now for the 4-Man Scramble.

Don’t forget about all the great food events happening to benefit Relay for Life. There’s a hamburger/hot dog lunch available today at the hospital. And if you like donuts, check this out.

ATTENTION: Runners

With so many runners/joggers/fitness walkers in our town, why not pull everyone together for fun, camaraderie and some light hearted competition for the more serious runners? If you run/jog/walk, meet at Key Corner Park on Saturday morning, March 21, at 9 am. Several routes have been mapped out around Brownsville (2 miles and over) so there will be a route for everyone.  You don’t have to be a runner to join, choose your route and walk or enjoy walking laps at the track.  Getting together once a week as a group will be fun, motivating and educational for all who are interested in this type of physical fitness. If you would like to add your name to yet-to-be-officially-named Brownsville Runners Club, please contact Donna Orr at (731) 772-8340 to be added to our email list.  Or just meet at Key Corner Park on Saturday mornings at 9 beginning March 21!
