All About Brownsville

& Haywood County

May 1, 2009

Volume 5, Issue 17

Steve and I finally had the opportunity to work in the garden this past weekend. We tilled the small plot and now have a few tomatoes, eggplants and cabbages set out. Still lots more I want to plant. My problem is that weather and spare time don’t seem to coincide. When I commented to a friend on Monday that I was afraid to plant much because of the sever weather prediction for this week, he was quick to advise me to “do your part and let God do his.” So I’m planting when I can and if the weather suddenly beats it all to a pulp, I’ll just get back out there and plant more. After all, it was much later than this last year before we got things planted and we enjoyed fresh vegetable all season. Can’t ya just taste that mater sammich right now?

Okay, now that I have you hungry. Or maybe it’s just me. Anyway, you’ll be hungry around noon today, so plan to drop by the Brownsville Utility parking lot, on Wilson Street, for a hamburger or hot dog lunch. It’s going on from 11 – 1 and is a Relay for Life fundraiser.

Local business people are getting in gear for Spring with lots of special events and activities. Check out what these local businesses are offering in May: Merle Norman, Pat’s Fabrics and Morris Jewelers.

Don’t forget about Saturday’s Listening Forum at College Hill. School Board Member Daniel Thornton is hosting the event and welcomes your comments about our school system. Forum begins at 1:30 p.m.

Many are concerned about the recent outbreak of swine flu and our own Haywood Park hospital is quick to respond with education and breaking news. They have provided this link to keep us up-to-date and informed:
