Volume 5, Issue 41

I know you are wondering if I have decided to go back to producing this newsletter on Friday instead of Thursday. The answer is no, I have not purposely made the decision. It just seems that during the past few weeks Friday is as soon as I can get it out. I apologize for the confusion and will try to get back on a regular schedule soon.

Congratulations to Chris Lea for being named Brownsville's new police chief. Chief Gill Kendrick has accepted the job of Jackson Police Chief. We will miss him, but he is leaving us in good hands.

Have you got your shopping shoes on? I hope so. Or maybe I should ask if you've made your list and checked it twice. It's that time of year and local merchants want to help make your shopping chore a lot easier. Starting today, Merle Norman- Tradiitons Gifts, All That's Victoria will host their Christmas Open House. And The Treasure Chest will host their Open House on Sunday (details below).

Then get ready for next weekend and the 2nd Annual Holiday in Haywood. Over 20 retail merchants will be set-up inside the Wyatt-Duke National Guard Armory and showcasing their best Christmas gift items. Admission is free. So you've got a week to get your gift-giving list ready before the doors open Friday morning at 11 a.m. Oh, and don't worry about eating before you come. Food will be available all three days and I hear heard a little about the menu and it sounds delicious.

I'll tell you another tip for finding great gift items - check out the gift shop at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center. There are some very interesting and one of a kind items to choose from, and a lot are locally made. Be sure and visit the museums while you're there, too.

Trick or Treat with Me was a 'wet' success. Does that make sense? I tell you, we have some dedicated trick or treaters in our community. It was so much fun to see all the kids in their costumes and trust me, the rain and cold were not deterring them a bit. Over 20 merchants participated this year. That's about double last year's participants. I've already heard others wanting to participate next year. Kinda makes you feel good to give something back, especially to the kids.

Have you heard about the Scholastic Book Fair being presented by the Library Club at the high school? See the details below, but everyone is invited and lots of great book selection will be available, plus some other gift items, too. It starts Monday, November 16.

The Arts Council is presenting a special treat this holiday season - Ballet Memphis's 'Nutcracker.' The performance is planned for Tuesday, November 17. You'll want to be sure and get a ticket to this event. More next week, but tickets are available at Livingston's and Insouth Bank, as well as at the door. For additional information, call the Arts Council office, 731-772-4883

Don’t forget the Veterans Day Ceremony at the Courthouse Wednesday at 11 a.m.
