Volume 5, Issue 36

I had a great time this past weekend at the Ryan Holladay Bluegrass Festival in Camden. I was very pleased with the reception my note cards and stationery items received and look forward to sharing them with you at the Hatchie Fall Fest. Can you believe it is almost that time again? October is going to be very busy for all of us. Some great events are planned all month long.

Let’s start with this Saturday. The annual March for Babies Walk begins at College Hill around 9:30 a.m.; the Hillville Fall Fest is happening at the M-Club (Community Center) at 5 p.m.; and the NAACP Awards Banquet is at 6 p.m. at Carver Gym.

Then Sunday is the 30th Annual Tennessee Trash Car Show from 8-3 at the WOW/Elma Ross Library. Thirty years - that’s a long time for a single event. This is one show we all should attend and congratulate these local car enthusiasts on their contributions to the community. It’s estimated that over $100,000 has been donated to local charities through this event.

Next week two very important kick-offs are planned. The United Way Campaign Kick-Off will be held Tuesday morning, 8 a.m., at Haywood Park Community Hospital. Everyone is invited and will include a complimentary Continental breakfast.

And I am especially proud to announce that the Relay for Life Kick-Off will be held Friday morning, 7 a.m., on the empty lot on the court square. This is the first event to be held in this location and I hope it is the start of many more that will take place there. Plan to get up a little early so you won’t miss this. Plus, it’s another chance this week to enjoy a delicious light breakfast with all your friends.

The ever-popular Scarecrow Contest will take place next Saturday, October 10, so if you haven’t gotten your entry form in, do so now. Enter online. Let’s fill the courthouse lawn with scarecrow creations of all kinds. These are our official greeters of the Hatchie Fall Fest and I know you will want to participate.

Another first in Brownsville is the Walk MS event happening Saturday, Oct. 10, at Webb Banks Passive Park. This 2K walk will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. It begins with registration at 1 p.m.

I also need you to brush up on your baking and chili making. Then get ready to eat noodles and salsa and try your hand at the Frozen T-shirt contest, too. It’s all happening Saturday, October 17, during the Hatchie Fall Fest. Wrestling will be on the square and we’ve got a pretty impressive lineup of musicians to keep you entertained all day. Don’t forget to bring the four-legged members of the family, too. There’s a pet show and blessing just for them. Check it all out at www.hatchiefallfest.com.

Be sure and check out the October Calendar for more details about all these events.

And I can’t end without mentioning the Mega Site. With this week’s announcement that funding is approved, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief. But don’t get too comfortable, yet. Now comes the hard part. Planning for success and making sure we are looking ahead and preparing for the opportunities this site can provide. Ready or not, here it comes. Let’s keep an open mind to the possibilities.
