All About Brownsville

& Haywood County

April 22, 2010

Volume 6, Issue 15

Congratulations to the 2010 Leadership Haywood County class. Tonight is graduation and I’m looking forward to seeing the class and learning about their experiences together this past year. I went through Leadership in the early 90s and enjoyed it so much. Anyone interested in the future of our community needs to go through this program. A new class will be forming in the fall, I’ll let you know when 2011 applications are available.

I had the opportunity to hear our State Representative Speaker Emeritus Jimmy Naifeh speak at the Legislative Breakfast Friday morning and I am always in awe of his knowledge and understanding of the workings of state government. He spoke to a full house and answered lots of questions. This Friday Senator Dolores Gresham will be the guest speaker at another Legislative Breakfast, downstairs at the Chamber at 8:30.

Don’t forget that Russell Dickerson will be in concert Friday night at College Hill. Russell has some local ties and Union Grove United Methodist Church is sponsoring this concert. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. Be sure and get your ticket and hear this rising young star before he really hits it big, and then you can say you “heard him when.” Okay, and if that’s not reason enough, how about this. Also appearing with Russell will be Brownsville’s own Blair Simpson. Blair is also on her way to the top. Another great musician from Brownsville, Tenn.

Have you visited the Stanton Welcome Center and Library? It’s a great facility and much to my surprise a pretty busy place. During my visit this past week, folks were in and out the entire time. Debbie and Emma are doing an outstanding job. They also have all kinds of things planned for Stanton again this summer, beginning with their Relay activities – a car wash this weekend, a “Walk for the Cure” May 8, and the Farmer’s Market is set to get started again in June.

You’ll find, as you check out the calendar below, it’s another busy week in Brownsville!
