Have you voted? We’re less than two weeks away from
welcoming someone new to the office of Mayor of Brownsville. Early voting is
in full swing and continues through next Thursday, June 10, in the courthouse
lobby. The March of Dimes Golf Tournament is today.
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Lots of chances to win something and all
proceeds benefit the March of Dimes. A big thank you goes to everyone who
worked so hard to put this event together. Lots of happenings this Saturday. From Hawaiian luaus
and gospel concerts, the calendar is full of activities for any age. Don’t forget the 2010 Youth Fishing Rodeo this Saturday,
June 5, on the Hatchie’s Goose Lake. It’s open to kids ages 4-12 and
sponsored by TWRA and the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge. Registration is
at 7:30 a.m. Contact the Refuge office at 731-772-0501 for directions and
more information. Still not too late to get your ticket for the Friends of
the NRA banquet next Thursday, June 10. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased

Jerry Rogers (731-780-0055). You’ve heard me say before how much I loved being a part
of 4-H when I was in school and I know it’s as much fun today as ever. That’s
why I don’t want anyone who has a child, grades 4-6, to miss the 4-H Camp
signup deadline tomorrow. Call the Extension office today for details and to
sign up, 731-772-2861. Vacation Bible School is starting at Holly Grove Baptist
Church. Kick-off is this Saturday. Check out the calendar below for details.
They will also be celebrating Cemetery Day this Sunday and everyone is
invited. “Southern Gospel meets Country Spiritual” on the porch of Sleepy John’s house at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center Saturday, June 19. This will be a free concert by Brownsville’s own David Smith and Jackson’s George Parchman. It will be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to picnic on the grounds. March of Dimes Golf Tournament The 12th Annual
March of Dimes Golf tournament will be held Thursday, June 3, at the
Brownsville Country Club. Lunch and registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with a
shotgun start at 1 p.m. Registration fee is $240 per team. Featured events
include $10,000 Hole in One contest, Closest Pin Contest, Straightest Drive
and Longest Drive. All proceeds from the event benefit the March of Dimes

Deadline to sign up for 4-H Camp Junior 4-H Camp (grades 4-6) will be held June 21-25, at the W.P. Ridley 4-H Center in Columbia, Tenn. Deadline for registration is Friday, June 4. Registration fee is $250. Junior High Camp (grades 7-8) will be conducted July 5-9. Registration deadline is June 25. Youth Fishing Rodeo TWRA
and Hatchie NWR will host the 2010 youth Fishing Rodeo Saturday, June 5, 7:30
a.m. at Hatchie's Goose Lake. The event is open to youth ages 4-12.
Participants must provide their own equipment and bait. Volunteers will be on
hand to assist anyone who needs help. Parents will not be allowed to fish
until the lake opens to the public at noon. Prizes will be given for biggest
fish, smallest fish and most fish; among others. For more information and
directions to Goose Lake, call the Refuge office at 731-772-0501, ext. 227. Saddle Up for VBS Holly
Grove Baptist Church, 8488 Poplar Corner Road, will host its annual Vacation
Bible School June 7-11. This year's theme is "Saddle Ridge Ranch."
Children ages 3 through 6th grade are invited to attend. The kick-off will be
held Saturday, June 5, from 11-1, and will include lunch and lots of fun
games. Parents are welcome. VBS will begin Monday at 9 a.m. until noon. Van
transportation is available by calling the church at 731-772-2627. Friday,
June 11, at 7 p.m., will be Family Night for children and parents with a
short program and refreshments. Hawaiian Luau YMCA's
On the Town event "Hawaiian Luau" will take place Saturday, June 5,
beginning at 6 p.m. Cost is $30 per person and maximum number is 30. This
party will feature tropical-themed foods, tiki torches and your favorite
umbrella drinks. All proceeds from this, and all On the Town events, benefit programs
of the local YMCA. To reserve your ticket, or for location and more
information, call the Y at 731-772-9748. Barnett's Homecoming The Barnett's Homecoming will be held Saturday, June 5, beginning at 7 p.m., at Allen Baptist Church, located in the Allen community on Hwy. 79 North (Bells Hwy.) Everyone is invited. |

Cemetery Day The
Annual Cemetery Day will be held at Holly Grove Baptist Church Sunday, June
6. Bro. Frank Kemper will bring the message. All are invited to Sunday School
at 9:45 a.m., the Worship Service will be at 11 a.m. and a fellowship meal
will begin at noon in the Family Life Center. Holly Grove Baptist Church is
located at 8488 Poplar Corner Road. For more information, contact the church

Toddler Time at the LibraryToddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be held Monday, June 7 & 21 at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. |

Friends of the NRA The
West Tennessee Friends of the NRA will hold their annual fundraising banquet
at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 10, at the First South Community Room, 308 West
Main. Tickets are $25. Proceeds from the event benefit state and national
projects such as hunter education, wildlife conservation and shooting teams.
Over 90% of funds benefit youth related projects. The event will also include

6th Annual JCIL/VA Fishing Rodeo This
is also free fishing day in Tennessee. If you would like to fish or be a
volunteer at the 6th Annual JCIL/VA Fishing Rodeo, please send a
