Sixteen days until the first day of Spring. I’ll be glad
to see it, or better yet feel some warmth from it. Here’s sure sign of Spring … Relay for Life fundraisers.
There are two that I know of. Parks and Recreation will hold a yard sale this
Friday and Saturday. The Brownsville Fire Department is selling
hickory-smoked Boston butts. Sign up at any of the three stations now thru
April 4. Cost is $25 and all proceeds go to Relay. This year’s Relay for Life
event is a little earlier than usual. The date is May 14. “Peace, Love and Happy Children” is the theme of this
year’s Carl Perkins Dinner and Auction Saturday, March 13. Still a few
tickets left; call the Center, 731-772-8378, for tickets or to reserve a
table. Artists and Performers have a couple of great
opportunities to show off their talents coming up in April. First, Haywood’s
Got Talent will hold auditions Wednesday, April 7, at the YMCA. The Chamber is sponsoring an art contest to commemorate
the 100th birthday of the Carnegie building. Art submissions must
depict what the Chamber and/or Brownsville-Haywood County means to you. For
more details and an entry form, contact the Chamber at 731-772-2193 or drop
by 121 West Main St. Entry forms must be turned in by March 30. Artwork due
by April 30. The HHS Fine Arts Department will present its annual
school play at the Ann Marks Theater this weekend. There will also be a
musical benefit at First Baptist on Saturday. The West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center is now open on
weekends until 5 p.m. Now there is no excuse not to drop by, sit by the
fireplace for a while and check out the museums. And if you happen to travel
the interstate, keep an eye out for our new billboards. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog |
